Would you learn how to fight fires by yourself?

Uncategorized Jun 25, 2019

Of course you wouldn't. It could be a matter of life and death if you tried.

You would need to have someone by your side that knew what to do, and when to do it. Right? And you had to learn it step by step, not by rushing in on the large fire right away...

I know this. I know how crucial it is to get the help you need. To get the stories, the tricks, and to learn the smart way to fight fires. To get all the information and training you need, before going out there on your own.

I know this because I was one of them. I was one who needed to learn how to fight fires. I was one of those who needed to learn how to handle the feelings and desperation of people who had just experienced the worst that could happened to them.

You see... I was a firefighter back then. I was a firefighter for 9 years before I became a fire chief. Never in my wildest fantasy would I ever let one of my men in on a call out if he hadn't had someone to coach him on what to do, and when to do it. Never!

And never would I have deared to fight my first fire if I hadn't had the training and coaching upfront. Of course not! I had a family to take care of!

It's the same in business as it is in the "firefighting world". It's not a matter of life and death in the same way as for a firefighter, but you can risk losing it all. Like in losing your money, your family and yourself.

I know that seems a bit dramatic, but we have to admit it; it's the truth...

You can try to learn everything on your own. You can watch a YouTube film here, and a webinar there. You can learn what you need that way, but it will take time. And you can miss the important pieces of your puzzle.

As a firefighter I would never see myself without my "teacher". As a fire chief, I wouldn't allow my guys doing things without having the coaching and exercises they needed. Like I wrote earlier: I would NEVER allow it! Never!

But why did I do all the wrong things before I finally "made it" in business? Before I had the kind of career that I had been dreaming of?

Today I know the answer. I didn't think it was necessary to pay for the help I needed. It wasn't a matter of life and death anymore, so I thought I would be better off figuring it all out on my own.

*RRRRRRIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG*

I should have heard the bells ringing. it was just as important in business as in my "firefighting world". Of course it was. But do you think I figured that out on my own? Nope!

It was someone else who awakened me. It was Paul ("my partner in crime") who finally asked the question.

I would never be where I am today without a coach. Where I'm in my business right now I need someone "holding my hand". I need to have someone to discuss my ideas with. I need someone holding me accountable, and someone who can give me the "push" I need from time to time.

Sometimes I even feel like a top tier athlete. Not because I'm the most fit or healthy person in the world, but because I'm talking about having a call with my coach the next day, or that I'm going to catch up with my Mastermind next weekend.

All the top athletes have their very own coach, someone who are there to help them take the next step. And the next. It's a reason for that. It's not just for fun.

That is how it is in business as well. And when we want to make that shift. That important shift from a job to become our very own bosses!

One of the things I as a coach myself is focusing on, is the importance of self confidence. My coach has had the same focus when it comes to me.

I'm not sure if you have downloaded this free "self confidence poster" I made a while ago. I know it has been really helpful for some of you. If you want it, you can get it for free here:

A Powerful Way To Build Self Confidence

Then you can have the feeling of having your very own coach as you take a look at this poster every morning as you wake up! I hope you will love it!
